Spec sheet: Land Cruiser Troopy

The classic Land Cruiser Troopy model is the perfect vehicle for game drives with family or a group of friends. Its rooftop can be lifted, providing a full 360-degree view—no wildlife will go unnoticed! This model comes with six window seats. When travelling with one of our local drivers, your group can include up to five people.

If you plan to go camping in Uganda, we recommend renting our Nissan Navara or  Suzuki Jimny instead. The pop-up roof of the Land Cruiser Troopy is not compatible with a rooftop tent. If you do like to take the Land Cruiser on a camping safari, it's best to rent it with a ground tent and camp gear. In this setup, we remove the last row of seats to create additional storage space, as the Troopy’s boot is small. This reduces the seating capacity from six to four people.

Check our spec sheet to know what to expect when renting our Land Cruiser in Uganda.

Toyota Land Cruiser Troopy Specifications

Kindly note that while we ensure that our Land Cruisers are well-maintained, they are not new. You will not find a new Land Cruiser for hire in Uganda. The classic Land Cruisers you see on the roads in Uganda can be twenty years old, but don't let this fool you. It's for a good reason - they are extremely powerful and reliable, and built without electronics for slower travel in the bush. Keep in mind that the driving comfort on paved roads, as well as features like air conditioning and speaker quality, cannot be compared to modern cars.

The interior and tools

  • Pop-up roof: Yes.
  • Inverter: No.
  • Dual battery (for fridge): Yes. The second battery is wired specifically for the Roadtrip Africa fridges and is not suitable for other devices.
  • Water tank: No.
  • A/C: No. The reason is that wiring and piping are sensitive and are affected by bumpy roads and dust. The knowledge and equipment to repair A/C are sadly not available in the field. During game drives, the pop-up roof will be open, providing natural airflow and ventilation. Otherwise, drive with your windows open.
  • Audio: Radio with small speakers, a USB, and an audio port. Bring your own cable (mini jack) to play music from your phone.
  • Charging devices: via the cigarette lighter. Bring your own adaptor.
  • Boot: The boot is small. We advise packing your luggage in soft duffel bags as they pack more easily than suitcases. If your travel group is six, you will store some bags between the seats inside the car.
  • Tent: You can equip the Troopy with a ground tent and camping gear for an additional fee. Check the camp gear list here.
  • Tools: Wheel spanner, towing rope, spade, jumper cables, high lift jack, and small jack.
  • Extras: Roadmap and Driving in Uganda manual. Roadtrippers who book a tour receive a planned route with driving directions and tips along the way.
